From that point the build side of the Leaders Award grew, in 2017 the \u2018Roll Over Bench\u2019 by Grace Finlay was built by the University of Strathclyde and The \u2018Smart Stick\u2019 by Mihika Sharma built by engineers from UCL London.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 3rd year of proto builds in 2018 was even bigger with the University of Strathclyde making a combined idea \u2018The Bin Crusher\u2019 by Heather Pinder and Aimee Arndt. Kingston University London went all out and built two inventions, the \u2018Electricity making trampoline\u2019 by Toby Stringer and \u2018The Truggy\u2019 by Lyla Geraghty. The University of Southampton built an invention for the South \u2018The Fun Noisy Rubbish Bin\u2019 by Bella Hunt and the University of Central Lancashire made an invention for Burnley, \u2018Tooth Mate\u2019 by Jasper Cherry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-9608\" src=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2018-inventions-900x176.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"176\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>In 2019 we will have 11 prototypes being built by nine Universities! Below are the prototypes that will be revealed at the Leaders Award Events this year:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The University of Strathclyde<\/strong> are making the <strong>\u2018Winter Walker\u2019<\/strong>, their 4th prototype. Charlie Torley, a Primary 4 pupil from Cromarty Primary School, has invented an innovative Zimmer frame for old people, designed to be used in icy conditions. Keep updated with the University of Strathclyde\u2019s build <a href=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/universities\/university-of-strathclyde\/\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8329\" src=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/strathclyde-2019-team-510x285.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"285\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Glasgow Caledonian University<\/strong> will be making <strong>\u2018The Flat Pack Wind Turbine\u2019<\/strong> by Douglas Macartney, an S3 student from the Royal High School in Edinburgh. His idea is to generate electricity from a simple to assemble \u2018flat pack wind turbine\u2019 to be used in the cramped conditions often witnessed in refugee camps. Douglas envisaged that these turbines could be used in remote areas with little or no access to power. You can find updates of Glasgow Caledonian University\u2019s\u00a0 build <a href=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/universities\/glasgow-caledonian-university\/\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9103\" src=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Unknown-510x249.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kingston University<\/strong> are building an amazing three inventions!\u00a0<strong>The Extending Sink<\/strong>, by Savannagh Dunne, a year 2 pupil from Abacus Belsize Primary School. Designed so that whatever your height the sink can be adjusted to suit you!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bicycle Sucker<\/strong> by Maisie Crook, another year 2 pupil from Rowan Preparatory School. This invention uses a bicycle to suck water from a well and into buckets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Magnetic Shirt<\/strong> is by Saaid Abdi a year 1 pupil from Trinity Primary Academy. Instead of fiddly buttons the shirt fastens with magnets. Keep an eye on the builds <a href=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/universities\/kingston-university-london\/\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9370 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/KU-TEAM-2019-900x437.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"437\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The University of Sunderland<\/strong> will be building for the North East of England, &#8211; the <strong>\u2018Liquid Detector\u2019<\/strong> by Grace Kennedy, a year 3 pupil from Barnard Grove Primary School. \u2018The Liquid Detector\u2019 is a device for the partially sighted and alerts them if a cup or other type of container they are filling is full so does not overflow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The University of Southampton<\/strong> for the South of England have chosen to build Isabelle Radley&#8217;s invention, a year 3 pupil from Wonersh and Shamley Green C of E Primary School. Isabelle invented <strong>\u2018The Super Hearing Set\u2019<\/strong>, a design to help a person who is hard of hearing to listen to one person at a time. This idea was designed to help Isabelle\u2019s father who sometimes struggles to hear who is talking in noisy environments. Keep up to date with their build <a href=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/universities\/university-of-southampton-team-proto\/\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8648\" src=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/super-hearing-set-510x291.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"291\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan)<\/strong> are building a prototype for Burnley this year. They have chosen to build the <strong>\u2018SMA Jacket\u2019<\/strong> by Krystyna Marshall, a year 10 student from Sir John Thursby Community College. SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) is a genetic condition that make the muscles weaker and causes problems with movement. Krystyna\u2019s SMA Jacket will use bioengineering that will help the SMA sufferers become more mobile.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coventry University<\/strong> join us for Central England to build the <strong>\u2018Swing Wheel Chair\u2019<\/strong>, a string powered Swing Wheel Chair by Belle Blakeston, a year 1 pupil from Marfleet Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The University of Hertfordshire<\/strong> are joining us for the East of England and have chosen to build <strong>\u2018The Station\u2019<\/strong> by Holly Deamer a year 4 pupil from Great Dunmow Primary School. \u2018The Station\u2019 to help you remove your muddy wellington boots!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The University of the West of England (UWE)<\/strong> are building a prototype for the South West of England. The team has chosen Philippa Griffith\u2019s, a year 7 student from Hugh Sexey C of E Middle School, idea <strong>\u2018Red Line Breaking System\u2019 (RLBS)<\/strong>. The red line braking system will display red lights to alert other drivers of the severity of the braking and levels of attention needed.
