The competition shows us the huge potential in young people to identify and solve problems in the world and that means accessing talent from all backgrounds.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">As part of the Awards, pupils interview an engineer and then, inspired by them, use engineering to solve a problem. They illustrate their invention and all entries are marked by engineers or those working in the industry. Students at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde then select a winning entry to be turned into a prototype each year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4821 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Unknown-4-510x510.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"510\" srcset=\"https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Unknown-4-510x510.jpeg 510w, https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Unknown-4-100x100.jpeg 100w, https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Unknown-4-580x580.jpeg 580w, https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Unknown-4-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Unknown-4-768x768.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Unknown-4-900x900.jpeg 900w, https:\/\/leadersaward.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Unknown-4.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Previous winning entries to the competition include the<strong> \u2018Trolley for the Elderly\u2019<\/strong>, which lifts and lowers at the flip of a switch, and was designed as part of the Scottish Engineering Leaders Award by Aidan McCann, a then P7 pupil at Cromarty Primary in Inverness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">His inspiration for the design came from his 75-year-old, 4\u201911\u201d granny, who struggled with conventional carts because of her age and height.\u00a0 Aiden, who won top prize at the Scottish Engineering Leaders Award with the idea, saw his plans brought to life by Masters students at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde.\u00a0 The Trolley is now on display at the Glasgow Science Centre to inspire pupils to find innovating engineering solutions to problems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">R<strong>egistration for this year\u2019s competition is now open and the last date for entries is 29<\/strong><\/span><strong><span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> March.
