The Lego Group began in the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen (1891\u20131958), a carpenter from Billund, Denmark, who began making wooden toys in 1932. In 1934, his company came to be called “Lego”, derived from the Danish phrase leg godt, which means “play well”. In 1947, Lego expanded to begin producing plastic toys.<\/p>\n

The name ‘LEGO’ is an abbreviation of the two Danish words “leg godt”, meaning “play well”. It\u2019s our name and it\u2019s our ideal.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The LEGO Group was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen. The company has passed from father to son and is now owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, a grandchild of the founder.<\/p>\n
