Since 2012, Primary Engineer have offered the \u2018If you were an engineer, what would you do?\u2019 Leaders Award competition, a creative, problem-solving engineering education competition for learners across the United Kingdom \u200b The following report explores the impact that this competition has had on learners, teachers, schools and engineers\u202fsince its launch. This analysis draws on historic evaluation data and reports, as well as new data collected for the tenth anniversary of the Leaders Award competition including surveys, testimonials and interviews with students, teachers and engineers.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#279eb2″][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner offset=”vc_hidden-xs”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n Some of the key impacts highlighted are:<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Learners<\/span>\u00a0gaining a greater understanding of engineering and <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0importance, as well as <\/span>adapting \u2018<\/span>engineering<\/span>\u00a0habits of mind<\/span>\u2019<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Teachers gaining greater confidence in their own <\/span>understanding<\/span>\u00a0of engineer, leading to them feeling more comfortable teaching STEM based subjects in class. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Engineers gaining an understanding of how important their role is in inspiring the next <\/span>generation<\/span>\u00a0of engineers. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n The report explores each of these impacts and outlines the legacy of support the Leaders Award\u202fcompetition has offered to schools and learners across the UK. <\/span>It then<\/span>\u00a0closes with an examination of how these benefits can continue to be offered and developed further through the work of Primary Eng<\/span>ine<\/span>er<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n [\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner offset=”vc_hidden-xs”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
